Company History

Citipost has been delivering premium B2B global mail services for more than 20 years. What started as a small operation set up in response to a mail strike in central London, has grown into a leading global distribution company at the forefront of B2B hand delivery, providing flexible, cost effective, quality mail solutions for many blue chip businesses worldwide.

The organisation began as Datarun in 1985 and the company focused on the specialist distribution of time-sensitive magazines and periodicals.

The company has based its philosophy on listening to customer, truly understanding their needs and providing a cheaper yet value-added service at every stage of the relationship so the customer has no headaches.

Over the following years, the company grew rapidly and used its successful business model to set up new divisions to enter new markets. Alternative Mail & Parcels (AMP) was set up in 1997 to service specialist catalogue and directory distribution, particularly photo libraries. Beginning with a few renowned client names, such as Science Photo Lab and Black Box, AMP expanded successfully into other niche catalogue and directory markets. At the end of 2004, AMP moved into a  27,000 square feet warehouse and office building created from a former Royal Arsenal factory in Woolwich.

An international division (AMPWW) was set up in 2002 to provide a service that matched the needs of international customers. The Direct Distribution division was set up in 2004 to provide specialist time-critical foreign newspaper and magazine fulfilment and distribution services across the UK.

In 2004, the organisation applied for and was awarded a mail licence to deliver lightweight parcels and mail to any address in the UK.

During 2003 and 2004, the company won the prestigious ECMOD Supplier of the Year (Supporting Services) award.

In December 2004, AMP bought Citipost Group from Royal Mail.  Citipost specialised in business-to-business delivery operations worldwide. With offices across Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, Citipost provides an ideal complement to the networks that AMP has already established.

In early 2006 AMP rebranded all its businesses under the Citipost banner.

Most recently, Citipost has created a new DSA (Downstream Access) division to leverage the opportunities of the full postal market deregulation in the UK.

Over the past 20 years, Citipost has grown to be a prominent player in the global B2B hand delivery market, with over 50 million items distributed worldwide each year.

Today the company is led by Citipost Group with six operating divisions: Citipost AMP, Citipost Direct Distribution, Citipost DSA, Citipost Europe, Citipost North America, and Citipost Asia.
